I ABSOLUTELY love Akron Children's Hospital!! They are so amazing and make you feel like your their only patient. The only complaint I had is Dr. Nelson was about an hour and half behind schedule so instead of Lucas' surgery at 11:30, he didn't go back til 1 :( Poor guy hadn't ate since the night before, but shockingly never once did he ask for food or drink! I was sooo thankful he didn't. I think the worse part of that morning for Lucas was being weighed, he just does not like the scales!!
The surgery took about 45 min (well the nurse took him at 1:00 and they called for us at 1:45 anyways). Dr. Nelson said everything went as expected they took the tonsils & adenoids out. We asked if the adenoids were big and he said oh yea they were a good size he will definitely be breathing so much better so that just reassured me all this was for sure worth it for him. Took awhile for him to wake up, sleepy head. Nothing breaks my heart more than going back to the Phase I room after surgery of a little one :( Seeing them helpless hooked up to all these wires :'( We weren't in that room very long then was checking into our recovery room for the night.
We were so proud of our little monster!! He had no problems drinking, was talking sentences again right away. The only issues he had was not being able to pee because of the anesthetics. They ended up having to give him morphine so he could relax his muscles and finally was able to go potty late that evening. He also didn't care for all the wires he had, since they had to give him IV pain med, he had to be hooked up to heart monitors and pulse thing...which meant he couldn't stray too far from the wall. The hospital has a rule if they are under 3 they have to be (well they can't have a regular bed) in a crib. It was almost bed time and the nurse came in asking how old he was (2) then asked when he will be turning 3 which is the end of December. She said well we know he isn't going to sleep in this crib so it might be more comfortable for you to lay with him in a bed let me go check (plus he's use to a big boy bed at home). Then comes back and said will you sign a paper basically saying you won't sue us if he falls out. I said of course, I knew I wouldn't be allowed to leave his side anyways. So in came a bed :) I was sooo thankful. I at least was able to get a total of 2 hours that night instead of none if we were in a chair.
Each day (and each time of the day) I notice more and more of a better change in him! He is either having side effects (restless) from the pain meds or the anesthetics but him being restless while sleeping (he was before anyways) is much better than being in pain and getting dehydrated so we will just ride it out for a couple more days.

Watching cartoons with Daddy. |
One of the nurses comes to show him what he will be seeing in the OR. Then him & the nurse went to find some things for Pluto :) Everything they did to him they would do to Pluto first (they even measured him). He loved this! And of course we got to bring the stuff home. He even had him breathing in the mask :) (no pictures of that)

Awe I am so impressed! What a brave little guy!
Sweet little guy! I love how they did everything to Pluto first and then to Lucas! :) So cool! :) Also cool that they let him take him back to surgery with him. ;)
Hope he's back to normal soon! :)
